Give them a Smile

Making her feel good made me smile too and I decided from then on my internal stranger complements would be said out loud.

“The best things in life are free”

You have this thing.

It is totally free, absolutely no price momentary or otherwise.

It is unlimited, you could give it away all day every day and never ever come close to running out.

It makes you, and other people, feel really good when you give it away.

What reason could you have for not giving it away as often as possible every single day?

When Chris and I went to Vegas to get married we decided to do a full on ridiculous wedding. Elvis officiated and oh man our look! I did this giant silly red gown. Chris had the top of a tux and black shorts on. We died our hair, mine turquoise and him purple.

We got so many complements and comments on our hair that week it was crazy. At least a few times a day and every time it put this huge smile on my face. I’m not someone who normally gets made up or puts and effort into my appearance, so this was a totally new experience for me.

Then I started to think about all the times I think something nice about a stranger and don’t say it out loud. Would it make them feel this good if I did?

So one day we are on an escalator somewhere on the strip and this lady had the most amazing shoes. Big platform heels just covered in rhinestones. I was mesmerized and before I even thought about it had to tell her that those were the prettiest shoes I have ever seen.

She smiled and said thank you and commented that she never wore stuff like that, but hey, this is Vegas, she had to get them.

Making her feel good made me smile too and I decided from then on my internal stranger complements would be said out loud.

They’re always sincere, I don’t try to force it or give false complements, but if I like something i say it. I also don’t try to stick around and talk because you never know of that would make someone uncomfortable. Just a quick in passing “that sweatshirt is awesome ” is pretty typical.

But oh man the smiles that you get! I don’t think most normal people are used to getting random complements!

We have an unlimited lifetime supply of smiles, why not share?
